Posted by Kenny On December - 21 - 2010

In the past good wigs were not easy to come by, often if you were not living in a big city you would have to travel long distances just to get one. After you traveled who knows how far, and found a wig that you liked, it would then have to be fitted to your head. Today you can find a good synthetic or real hair wigs, and even hair extension - which are growing quite popular, just about anywhere.

Human Hair Wigs:

When a person is looking to add length to their hair, they use hair extensions. There are several popular methods of placing hair extensions; gluing and sewing tracks to peoples hair, or a much more expensive option is hair fusion. Human hair extensions and wigs are generally more costly than synthetic hair pieces. For good reason, human hair can be treated just as you would your own hair. You can straighten, curl, comb, and brush it. Human hair wigs also tend to last much longer than synthetic wigs when taken care of properly.

Synthetic Hair:

This style of wig looks great, it appears silkier and shinier than any real hair could. The down fall is that it does not last as long and cannot be manipulated in the same way. Synthetic hair sometimes only keeps its beauty for a few weeks and then begins to dull; this is why it is much cheaper than real hair wigs. Although because of the great temporary look to it, it is a great choice for a special occasion.

Women’s Hair Extension Techniques

Posted by Kenny On October - 13 - 2010

Many women choose to change their hairstyles often. They may want a cute and playful pixie cut one second and then wish that they had really long hair the next. Salons are basically there to satisfy each and every hair desires of women. One of the best things that have come out of the salon is hair extensions. Finally, women can change hairstyles to match the outfits they have for the day. Much like permanent eyelash extensions, there are different extension techniques that your stylist can utilize depending on the type of extension that you are getting.

Types of Hair Extensions

There are essentially two kinds of extensions – the wefted hair and the bulk hair. Wefted extensions are kept together with the help of a band of find threads. Wefted extensions can be done by a machine or by hand. Hand tied wefts are more expensive than the machine variety. Bulk extensions on the other hand do not have wefts. This type of extension is loose as compared to wefted extensions.

Track Extensions

Also called as the basic cord tracking technique, pinch weaving, micro weaving and track locking, this technique makes use of weft extensions and are done by positioning the tracks of hair horizontally and then weaving the extensions in a lock stitch. The tracks of hair are positioned rather close to the scalp. Although this technique results in long lasting extensions, it can be rather tough on the scalp and must be done with great care. The track technique can be done on natural or treated hair.

Cornrow Track Extensions

Just like the earlier technique, the cornrow technique makes use of wefted hair extensions. The technique is the oldest among all the other methods. This method is quite the same as track extensions only that instead of weaving lock stitch threads, cornrow braids are used to keep the tracks of hair in place. However, extensions done with this method need to be redone more often.

Strand Bonding

The strand bonding technique makes use of bulk hair and is done by attaching strands to small sections of hair. Adhesives are required to keep the hair intact. Extensions made with this technique can last from four to six months. If you're going to wear foundation makeup with the extensions, make sure to bled well into the hairline, because new hair extension jobs can pull the hair back from the scalp a little.

Whether or not you decide to get hair extensions, keep in mind that this can be a long, expensive procedure that will last for months, but you probably won't be able to easily remove your extensions if you change your mind. They can be a great beauty technique, but make sure you understand all the potential drawbacks first.
