Ombre Hair Color

Posted by Kenny On June - 6 - 2011

Long, often wavy at the end, and always with dark hair in contrast with the lighter (usually blonde) highlights. Ombre hair color has excelled in popularity as of late. Most recently, people have been popping up with this carefree, shabby chic, nature-inspired look. Is it possible that some have been able to work it with a touch of class?

Such celebrities as Jessica Biel, Sarah Jessica Parker, Drew Berrymore, and Shenae Grimes have all embraced the fad with signature hairdo’s and their own individual takes on the word “Ombre”. Said to have simply gotten lazy and not gone in for a touch-up by critics, die-hard fans know different. The Ombre bug had bit them and they pulled it off with style.

It’s created, specifically, with a dark root (usually close to the wearer’s natural hair color). This dark root extends downward, slowly or drastically turning into lighter highlights. Although blonde is a popular choice among those choosing to sport this look, sometimes you will see those with light brown, red, or even white chunks of hair – all the way to the tip.

Sufficed to say, it’s definitely what’s in at the moment; possibly lasting for the rest of the year, if not branching into the next. Much like past haircuts that confuse onlookers as to whether it’s on purpose or purely accident (bed head, hat hair, messy au naturale…greasy or gel soaked/the “wet” look), the Ombre is tried and true to make a huge comeback. Not just for the lazy, either.

Some sites are already beginning to doubt the life of the trend; featuring pictures of “now and then” comparison with one or two celebrities. Don’t people realize, individuals will always change their hair? But with one giving up on the Ombre, another is sure to surface in their place. Especially since it’s the summer, some celebrities are choosing to cut the weight of their hair or change the color to something more low tone; Ashlee Simpson being one of the implied (as well as a few choice celebs aforementioned). If anything, the craze would be replaced by a red-head summer, as seen on popular actress Drew Barrymore as of late.

Future predictions would dictate that if not the fall, someday soon, the Ombre look will return after it’s slow end. Already there are tutorials for the do on Youtube and “How To” guides litter the internet. If not as a high-end trend for the celebrities, then at least it will be worn nostalgically by middle school, Jr. High and High School students, alike as they try and replicate what once was and possibly attempt to bring it back themselves. That, or they are simply too lazy to get a touch up, after all.

Posted by saurabh.sahni280691 On June - 3 - 2011

Who does not wish to look different? Hair coloring offers brings in the opportunity with a number of shades and tone for your hair to look sleek and stylish. Hair coloring is a practice of changing the natural color of ones hair and giving a new color to it.

Now-days, hair coloring has become very common. It is a usually done to hide grey hair or to change hair color to more fashionable and trendy.

Hair coloring is of 4 types.

-Permanent hair color : this type of hair coloring does not wash out and contains both ammonia and peroxide. Ammonia and peroxide together break down hairs natural pigment and new dye color replaces it.

-Temporary hair color : This type of hair coloring is also called as glaze and color lasts for 6 to 12 shampoos. Chemical composition of these hair colors lack ammonia and contain small amount of peroxide. Thus it does not damage the hair. Temporary hair color is of 2 types-semi permanent and demi permanent. However, both fade away with time.

-Bleach : hair bleaching removes the topmost layer of pigment and reveals lighter shade underneath. Bleach plays an important part as a pre treatment for further coloring.

-Natural coloring : natural hair color is free from ammonia and contains very small amount of pre-oxide. Henna is a completely natural form of hair color and can turn hair darker or add red tones. Color fades away in 4-6 weeks.

Hair color not only give a new look to a person but completely alters the personality of the person. From dark brown to black to funky colors, a number of tones and shades are available. Hair dye companies provide us with a range of colors to fulfill the same purpose.

However, whatever color one chooses, hair coloring is associated with a number of health hazards. Hair colors contain the most harmful chemicals that can even ruin the hair quality, their health and shine.

Hair color involves use of chemicals that can result in range of adverse effects, temporary skin irritation allergy, hair breakage etc. PPD or popularly known as para-phenylamine is the most common ingredient of hair dyes. It causes allergic reactions like redness, sores, itching and headache. Moreover PPD is a carcinogen, an agent that causes cancer. Ammonia hydrogen peroxides are other few harmful chemicals that are hazardous and cause a number of allergies. They are so toxic and corrosive that can even cause respiratory problems and skin inflammation. Hair breakage is also a very common problem after successive exposures to chemicals. Hair becomes rough and fragile. They loose there lustrous property and can also lead to skin discoloration.

Therefore, the choice ultimately depends upon the user. The choice between which hair color to go for and the precautions to be taken care of while applying and before and after applying are certain factors that hold a lot of importance in getting the hair color right.

Dye Your Hair Safely With Henna

Posted by Kenny On December - 2 - 2010

Henna has been used for several thousand years to dye hair,  leather, silk and other materials in different parts of the world, it has also been used for body paintings and even temporary tattoos. Therefore if you want a  temporary tattoo that does not require a tattoo concealer every time you go to a job interview, body painting might be for you.  Henna was aprpeciated  already in Ancient Egypt and also the Indians used it several thousands years ago and the Ancient  Romans found out about  it too. Henna has been used to dye hair and paint bodies  in religious ceremonies and ritual and very often used for weddings.

How to use Henna on your hair.

If you want to use Henna to dye your hair consider that the  result will be different according to your hair colour. Very dark hair will have rich red tones while very light or grey hair might end up looking  very ginger, you should test henna on a small strand of hair before deciding whether it is the colour for you. Always use proper 100% natural Henna hair dye, avoid any brands that have anything added to it as there might be dangerous chemicals, some of the products come from countries with little regulations, therefore be careful and safe.  You need to mix about 200 gr. of Henna with something acidic, many people use lemon juice or grapefruit juice. Apply Henna over your hair while wearing gloves, the more henna you apply the richer the colour will be. When all your hair is thickly covered with henna, wrap your head in plastic film to keep it protected, warm and you do not want henna all over your furniture. Keep it on for 2-4 hours and then wash it all off, it will take a couple of days for the real colour to come through. You can re-apply Henna as often as you like, therefore after about a month you can retouch your roots.

Hair Color Which One Suits You The Most

Posted by Kenny On November - 17 - 2010

Getting your hair colored is not a difficult task but the task is to choose the right kind of hair color that would go as per your skin tone. Obviously, no one would like a hair color that would make them look like a fashion disaster so that defines the importance of the right kind of hair color to be chosen.  Also, it is important to see if a single process color suits your hair or just the highlights would do. Another factor that needs to be decided is who is going to do it: you on your own or someone else as that depends upon the amount of coloring or highlight required.

For those who have pale skin, going for lighter hair color would be a better option as going for dark colors, like dark brown, would make you look older. Also, once you have colored your hair, keeping them healthy with required hair products is a must. The most popular hair color that people go for is red. Red is one such hair color that goes with every skin tone but what is important is to see which shade of red would suit you the best. However, it is best suggested to take a professional advice rather than trying any shade of red on you own.

The decision between applying a full hair color or whether to highlight your hair is a tricky one. For people with a great base hair tone, complementing your hair by highlighting them would be just perfect. But if your base color washes out your skin tone, go for a single processing color. Going for highlighting is a bit more expensive option than to go for single process color. If you are ready to experiment, go for two different highlights as that may even enhance your skin tone. Also, there comes something called semi-permanent colors that wash out after a few washes unlike the permanent ones that stay.

Some people, quite often, are not satisfied after they a hair color done. Do not yell at the hair stylist. Look for shampoo with ammonium laurel sulfate in the market and that would help you get rid of the color faster. And for those who love the color they got and want to enhance them for the longest period possible, there comes many color-enhancing shampoo and conditioners in the market. What they do is that they deposit the miniscule amounts of color into the hair and applying them once a week would do the job. Generally, a hair color lasts for 6 to 8 weeks but if you want it to stay longer, get your roots of hair touched up, either by your own using a specialized kit or go for a stylist to do the task. Researching and picking up advices from experts always help, but always remember, being natural is the best piece of advice you can get.

Hair Color Correction

Posted by Kenny On August - 24 - 2009

Using a permanent or strong semi permanent hair color can be risky. If the risk doesn’t pay off and you end up hating the resulting look of your hair, there are a few options you can try apart from living with it.

A professional colorist will probably be best at removing your hair color. But this has a risk in itself, which is further damage to your hair, not to mention a brassy look which can only be removed by dying your hair once more. color removers are available for purchase in drugstores, but going to a colorist really is the safest option to take.

A semi permanent hair color will weaken the more you shampoo it. If you’re planning on shampooing frequently remember to condition after every few shampoos to prevent your hair from drying out. You can also consider a hair cut to take focus away from the color or to reduce the unwanted effects.

If you want to correct hair lightening, then you can simply ask a colorist to apply a few darker tones until you get a shade you are satisfied with. If your hair is only a few shades lighter than your desired shade, then try using a blue-toned shampoo, which are especially designed for such a problem. Alternatively, you can ask your colorist to try out a violet or blue toner to your hair to counteract the light color.

If the color obtained is drastically lighter than what you had in mind, you can use a semi permanent color in a similar, ashy tone to try and tone down the light color. Switch to a mild shampoo and try reducing the time that your hair is exposed to the sun. Significantly lightened hair can also result from the bleach being left on too little. To prevent this from happening again you can leave the bleach on a little longer, or carry out a strand test to know how long it needs to be kept on.

If your hair color is too dull for your linking, you can try using a colorless gloss on it. Adding highlights or lowlights can also help give your hair a livelier color that will make you forget about the dull color. A spray on shine or silicone products can help give you instant lustre, so you can add these onto your hair when you’re going out in public and don’t want to show off your dull hair color. Don’t overdo the spray, or you might end up with greasy-looking hair that looks bogged down with product.

If you want to keep your hair from getting too dark, always go for a product that is a few shades lighter than the shade you’re heading for. This is especially useful if you have damaged hair, or thin hair, as these absorb more hair color and dye than other hair types. A conditioning of your hair before applying the dye can also help avoid coloring becoming too dark. Performing a strand test can help you figure out what the best timing is to achieve the shade you want.

Blonde Hair Color Hair Care

Posted by Kenny On August - 24 - 2009

Only two percent of the world’s population has naturally blonde hair, which means that a large majority of women color their hair blonde. Whether your hair is naturally blonde or dyed blonde, you need to take care of your hair to ensure the color is long lasting.

If you have naturally blonde hair, the shade tends to darken as time goes on. It is better to avoid chemicals to style your hair as it will thin your hair and weigh it down. To keep your blonde hair looking full, you can try volumizing products such as root boosts. Moisturizing hair products are always best to use to keep your naturally blonde hair sleek and healthy.

Before coloring your hair blonde, keep a few simple guidelines in mind to ensure you get the best results. Always have a patch test one whole day prior to the full color application. This way you’ll know well beforehand if you are allergic to the coloring. If you have naturally blonde hair and are intending on coloring it, do not go for colors that are more than two shades darker or lighter than your natural color.

Don’t wash your hair right before the coloring procedure. This removes natural oils from your hair, making it dull and dry. Unless you are getting your hair colored by a professional, always go for natural hair color, and check the ingredients to make sure there are no harmful chemicals in it. Avoid using any heavy conditioners on your hair because they can lift the color off blonde hair.

After you have your hair colored to the blonde shade you desire, take care of it well. Protecting your newly blonde locks from the sun is an essential rule, as sunlight can cause blonde hair to become dry, and may even turn it red eventually. These qualities are difficult to get rid of once they occur. Always carry an umbrella when going out into the sun. You can also use hats or scarves to cover up your hair and protect its color and health.

Washing your hair before going swimming and applying a leave-in conditioner can help protect your hair against the chlorine and countless other chemicals found in swimming pools that can turn blonde hair green.

Keep moisturizing your hair regularly. This is doubly important if you find yourself using thermal styling tools such as flat irons and curling irons often. Try to avoid using these tools daily, and reduce your use of them to about once every two or three days. Use some protective serum on your hair beforehand, and moisturize your hair more on such days.

Use a good shampoo and conditioner that is specifically formulated for blonde hair, so as to maintain the blonde color for as long as possible. Use a color locking conditioner, which is usually provided with your hair color when you first dyed it.

You can also try using a cleansing shampoo or deep conditioning treatment at least once every week. This can remove any toxins that are in your hair and scalp and help towards making your blonde hair look and feel better.

How Can Professional Hair Color Change Your Look

Posted by Kenny On August - 24 - 2009

A professional hair color can achieve several things, in addition to giving you a major boost in self esteem. It can help tone down prominent facial features that you aren’t too fond of, or cover up damaged hair or a bad hair cut. Hair color is now no longer a bothersome procedure, it is more of a cosmetic, and is becoming an essential one.

If you find that your hair is dull, limp, damaged and nothing you do can seem to bring it back to its natural lustre, then a professional hair color can do wonders for you. Permanent waving, poor diet and health, spending too much time with your hair exposed to the sun and using too many harsh hair care products can all give your hair adverse effects that can be carefully hidden with the right hair color.

The ideal color can also shape your face and tone down features you don’t like. A large face can be made to look smaller with dark hair coloring. The opposite is true for a small face that needs to appear larger.

Tipping the ends of the hair with pale streaks or frosting above the forehead can elongate the length of a short face. If done at the temples, the same coloring can make the face seem wider and make the eyes seem further apart.

If you have sharp facial features and hard planes, you can tone these down by having your hair colored in a soft, delicate color. Paler hair colors can help to conceal wrinkles. If you have a prominent nose or jaw line, it can be counteracted by having your hair done in a brilliant color.

These are some of the many reasons that women have a professional hair color. Sometimes it isn’t done to hide anything unattractive, but simply because the woman wants a new look and feel to her hair.

A professional hair color requires time and money, if you intend to go to a reputable salon. You will also have to go around every two weeks to keep up the hair color. You cannot postpone these touch up appointments because evidence of the hair coloring begins to show at the roots, and can be unattractive. So before making the choice to have a professional hair color, make sure you have the time and money to truly commit to it and make the best use out of it.

The most important thing is choosing the right color, especially for older woman. Gray or white hair cannot be colored with a shade that is too dark. This will be unflattering, and highlight lines, faded eyes and sallow skin. A lighter, softer version of the original natural hair color can instead give a much better result.

If you cannot decide on the right color for yourself a professional colorist will be able to tell you the pros and cons of any color against your complexion and facial features. Most beauticians and experienced salespeople at department stores or beauty salons will be able to advise you.
