Hair Transplantation: Basic Know-Hows

Posted by saurabh.sahni280691 On December - 29 - 2011

The most common hair problem these days is hair fall and so are its consequences. It becomes difficult for a person to face the society with empty scalp. But with a very effective solution you can get rid of this problem and that is hair transplantation.Hair transplantation is more in demand these days and is helping so many people all around the world. So far hair transplantation is the most successful treatments for baldness.

This remarkable remedy was introduced by Dr. Norman Orentreich in the 1950's, and since then hair transplants have been the preferred medical treatment for baldness throughout the world. Many people have had their baldness problem permanently solved through the hair transplant process.

Basically hair transplantation is all about a surgical technique which involves moving individual hair follicles from one part of the body which is called the donor site to bald or balding parts that is the recipient site. By a series of surgical procedures the transplants are distributed throughout the bald area. This technique not only covers the bald area, but it can also restore the natural look of your hair.

The first step is to determine a candidate's potential for a hair transplant treatment and donor graft availability. There must be enough hair remaining hair to supply donor grafts for both current baldness and for areas that could be bald in the future. The hair in the donor areas should be thick enough so that it looks good even after the transplant. Within a range of four-millimeter donor graft,a minimum of eight to twenty healthy hairs should be growing. Areas where hairs have become extremely fine and thin or where hairs are not growing indicates that donor grafts would be unavailable there.

Other very important factors that needs to be looked at before going for a hair transplant is the current age and degree of baldness. The patient must be at an age where the physician or surgeon can clearly see the future male pattern baldness pattern of a younger man. Many surgeons even look at the pictures of the patients' family members to determine a developing pattern of baldness. This is done so that there will not be donor grafts taken from areas that will potentially become bald. Such an evaluation also ensures if sufficient donors are available to cover the ultimate extent of the baldness. Hair and scalp color, as well as hair texture, are some other important considerations as well. The candidate for a hair transplant must be made aware about the final results based on the natural tendencies of the hair.

Since there is a particular angle, and in a specific direction in which hair grows, the hair growth pattern must be duplicated as nearly as possible. Since time makes slow but distinctive changes in every individual's face, a good surgeon creates a hair line that will look attractive even after patient ages. a good surgeon will make your hair restored and make them look attractive and, most importantly, as natural looking as if it were nature's work.

Basic Care for Hair

Posted by saurabh.sahni280691 On September - 7 - 2011

The dependence on how you take care of your hair is linked with the type of hair texture you have, your lifestyle, and also on how you style your hair regularly.

Know your hair type : People with dry, curly n frizzy hair have varied hair care needs than those of people with straight and fine hair. But all the hair demands to be treated very gently, specifically when it is wet. As wet hair can stretch, developing into more vulnerable type leading to breakage or damage to the cuticle. That is why it is often said that using a hot blow-dryer (or any such kind of heat styling products) on very wet hair can damage it drastically.

Some people usually find that their hair turns oily in their early teen years. This is because of the fact that hair follicles do have some sebaceous glands that produces sebum, which helps in providing the particular amount of moisture to the hair and the skin. During the adolescence, it is often observed that the sebaceous glands may become hyperactive, making more oil than that of the needed amount. Because with acne, oily hair are normally a temporary rather than a permanent part of puberty.  Many teens try to take care for oily hair by washing it about once in a day — or more if they're active. As long as you dress your hair cautiously when it's wet, frequent washing would not harm it. But if you have acne, it is good to keep the hair around your face tidy so hair oils should not clog onto your pores.

If you're cleaning your hair on the daily basis or so, it would be better if you go for a mild shampoo instead of the shampoo designed for oily type of scalp. For some — especially the ones with fine, fragile, or combination hair (in such a condition you may observe that hair are oily at the crown but are dry towards the ends) — shampoos for oily scalp can be too harsh causing various disasters to your texture of hair. If you possess oily hair and wish to use a conditioner, then go for the ones those are made for oily hair. If you have a dry scalp, it is a good idea to cleanse them less frequently. Some people need to wash their hair for only once a week or more or less — and that's fine. Mostly the people who have curly hair have dry scalp. And we know curly and dry hair types are more fragile than straight hair, so those with such kind of hair need to be very careful about using the heat styling products. Shampoos that are especially made for dry hair and the hair conditioners can really help to a great extent.

Do you love to play some sports or to spend a lot of time at the beach areas? Such kind of things can affect your hair texture greatly. As for an example, if you're an athlete with oily type of hair, you may want to wash hair after working out due to sweat over your scalp during practice and games. But if you are a lifeguard or you’re a swimmer, then sun and the saltwater (or chlorine present in the pool water) can make your hair dry out, no matter what your hair type is. If you are exposed to sun, or wind, or the other elements, you may want to go for a shampoo designed for dry hair or use a conditioner with your. It is an excellent idea to wear a hat to safeguard your hair whenever you are outdoors.

Hairstyles Causing Damage to your Hair

Posted by saurabh.sahni280691 On September - 7 - 2011

Heat styling hair products like perming and straightening irons can dry out the oily type of hair if they're used excessively. One must follow the provided instructions carefully, and don't use them over the wet hair or with high settings, and give your hair a vacation frequently by not styling once in a while. Consult your hair stylist or the dermatologist for an expert advice for using such heat styling products. In case of not using heat styling methods or if one goes for the Chemical treatments even those can also harm your hair if they are not used ideally. If you wish to go for a chemical treatment to color, or straighten, or curl your hair, it is best to trust the advice of job to the professionals. Hair stylists who are specifically trained in applying various chemicals to hair shall be able to examine your hair type and texture and decide which chemicals will work the best for you.

Here are the following things to be taken great care of when getting a chemical treatment:

* Relaxers. Relaxers ( or the straighteners) works by breaking the chemical bonds in curly and frizzy hair. Relaxers that contain lye can cause skin irritation to a great extent and apparently causing the hair breakage. Although "no lye" relaxers may be the ones that causes less irritation, but both types of relaxers can lead to problems if they are used in a wrong way (likewise, if they're mixed incorrectly or proportion is not what it actually should be or when the chemicals are left on the hair for too long). Scratching, brushing, or combing to the hair right before a chemical treatment for relaxing can increase such risks. And one should not use relaxers or any hair treatment if your scalp is irritated.

If you wish to keep straightening your hair, you will certainly need to wait for at least one and a half month before your next treatment to evaluate your hair. Relaxers can cause great hair breakage when it is used for over a period of time, even when they are used flawlessly. Using the blow-dryers, or going for curling or straightening irons, or color on the chemically relaxed hair may increase the risk of the damage.

* Perms. Perming includes straight hair and ends up make it curly. The risks factors are similar to those which are associated with relaxers.
* Color. There are two variants of color: permanent color (i.e. the color stays in your hair as long as it grows out) and semi-permanent (i.e. the color washes out after various rinsing over a while). Some of the semi-permanent color treatments, like henna, are comparatively safe and very easy to use at home. Some people may suffer a condition known as contact dermatitis ( which is an allergic reaction with rashes) from henna and other similar "natural" products, so just be sure to test a small area first.

Other color treatments — especially permanent ones may cause the hair loss, burning, or redness, and irritation. Even a few types of color treatments can lead to allergic reactions in some people, and in rare cases these can be very disastrous. So consult your stylist if you’re tensed that you can be sensitive to use of such products. Also, ask your stylist for doing a patch test before using a particular product. And never use the hair dyes on your eyelashes or over your eyebrows.

Summer Hair Problems!

Posted by saurabh.sahni280691 On August - 8 - 2011

Do you know what is at its peak this summer? Its the sun. And along with it brings a number of hair problems. From fuzziness to sweaty oily hairs, split ends and many more. It is difficult to avoid sun and hair problems and therefore these problems need to be prevented. And for this one need to care for their hair. Hair are porous and when the humidity is at high the cuticle absorbs the moisture and swells. This leads to spreading twisting and fuzziness in hair. Extra moisture can also cause itchy scalp. One can get rid of these problems by investing them in a nice hydrating and smoothing shampoo and conditioner. One must also stay away from using hair dryers, straighteners and other that involve heat. These products damage the cuticle of hair and adds more fuzziness.

Another very common hair problem that people usually ignore is the dryness and scalp burns.scalp is the most ignored part when it comes to styling and caring for hair. Though application of sun blocks n scalp is not an option to protect it from the harsh UV rays of the sun, but your scalp needs the same care as your skin need from the sun.

And it can be achieved even without sacrificing your style. There are a number of hair products available with SPF including leaving conditioners, the serums and many other hair products. Do not forget to apply these products on on the portion where you part your hair from. Since this is the most exposed region of your scalp, it needs extra care. You can check out the new skin protectors and hair sprays that have recently hit the market.

Exposure to sun, heat and high temperature and using heat emitting styling products renders your hair brittle and weak. It is also a cause of split ends that are difficult to repair back. In summers you should always avoid using dryers and other heat emitters for hair. The more your hair remain away from heat, the more it gets to absorb the natural and essential oils. In summers it is always advised to treat your mane with a deep conditioning mask at least one or two times in a month. According to hair experts hair needs to get trim for every four to six weeks in summers, and less often in winters. Thus you need to take extra care for your hair in summers.

Swimming is one of the most refreshing thing in summer that everybody enjoys. Pool parties become very common during summer and so do the hair problems. Yes swimming can also damage your hair. The oxidized metals in the chlorinated pools do this damage. It ruins your natural hair color. And the greenish tinted tresses are side effects of swimming. You can wear a swimming cap in the pool that protects your hair. Or you can invest some money in clarifying shampoos that contains EDTA and immediately use it after coming out of the pool.
Enjoy summer and look beautiful and keep your hair healthy and attracting.

Why Are Sulfates Added to Shampoo

Posted by Kenny On July - 6 - 2011

Why are sulfates included in shampoos anyway?

I think that's a fair question and one that I'll answer now.

Did you know water has a skin? Don't believe me? Go and fill a glass to the brim and then put a few more drops into it. The water will rise above the brim and be quite happy there.

Ever seen a skimmer or waterboatman sitting on a lake or pond, quite happy drifting over the water's surface.

OK, technically it's not a skin it's what is known as surface tension. This is the stuff that keeps a raindrop spherical as it drops from the sky.

Surface tension has a natural tendancy to try and keep water together in spheres.

When you wet your hair you have hundreds of thousands of tiny spheres of water running among the strands. However, it needs to be clinging to your hair and not trying to stay as a sphere.

The surface tension needs to be broken. This is done by adding surfactants into shampoos. These break down the surface tension and allow the water to better cling to your hair.

Sulfates are surfactants. They are very cheap to produce and so are favoured by manufacturers.

Unfortunately they can be harsh and irritating to those with sensitive skin, especially if you suffer from eczema.

Additionally they will strip the hair of its natural oil drying it out prematurely. It can also dry out the scalp which will lead to flaky skin or dandruff.

To avoid drying your hair out faster than normal you can try a sulfate free shampoo or use a good conditioner after washing your hair.

Some studies have shown that long term exposure to sulfates could lead to thinning hair as the folicles are damaged by the contact. However, there has been no evidence to link sulfates to cancer as some reports on the internet have suggested.

All about Dandruff – What Causes It?

Posted by saurabh.sahni280691 On June - 30 - 2011

Healthy glowing hair is a crowning glory for a woman today. But today a number of hair problems cause hair falls and other hair problems. Dandruff  in hair is one of those problems. It is the shedding of dead skin on the scalp.

The skin of the scalp just like the skin on body constantly renews by shedding the outer most layer of skin cells. Most of the time this shedding is unnoticeable as it occurs slowly and in less amount. But when this shedding becomes rapid and noticeable on the scalp, it is called as dandruff. Mild dandruff does note occur due to dryness but usually it is the result of too much oil on the scalp. Dandruff can occur to anybody at any age. It should not be left untreated. Dandruff is mainly caused by a fungus called Mallazesia globosa. This fungus is found in the atmosphere and can infect anyone. other reasons could be excessive use of hair care products, over intake of sugars and fats, sunlight or this problem may be genetic. Rarely, dandruff can be caused by an allergic reaction to chemicals in hair gels, sprays, and shampoos, hair oils. Dandruff is a serious problem it cannot be left untreated or ignored. Dandruff produces itching in the scalp. and sufferers tend to scratch the area to relieve itching. This scratching frequently weakens the roots of the hair and leads to hair fall. Dandruff increases the risk of scalp infections like psoriasis. Moreover dandruff also leads to public embarrassments.

Besides, some hair gels, particularly organic hair gels, offer nutritional benefits. Such hair gels can be fused with organic herbs that is soaked into both, scalp and hair, and thus, providing nutrition to hairs that were damaged due to improper diet and chemicals and pollution A few hair gels are specially made for offering temporary hair color. Such gels provide temporary color and are not as natural looking as the hair dyes. These hair gels give funky look and are commonly applied during parties, concerts, etc.

However, with so many uses and beneficial effects, hair gels can also be harmful. The main component of hair gel is water that gives the fresh gel its viscosity. A number of chemicals are present in hair gels. These may include polymers, plasticizers and wax. A few hair gels also contain denatured alcohol. For fragrance and fillers, gel is added with irritant that can cause allergies. Alcohols and plasticizers in gel can affect everything from non dangerous temporary allergies to permanent infertility or kidney failure. Hair gels do not cause hair fall but they do lead to dull fragile hair. It renders your hair rough and can cause split ends too. Overuse of hair gels absorbs all the shine and luster from hair and leaves them rough and dry. Hair gels block pores in the scalp and sleeping with hair gels can also lead to poor hair growth.

Thus, along with some benefits hair gels also bring follies and can be really harmful. Therefore, overuse of hair gels or other hair styling products must be avoided. It is always advisable to wash your hair and condition them properly after gelling them so that all the chemicals can be washed away. It depends upon you that how much use of hair gels you want to bring in your day-to-day life.
