Seasonal Hair Care Methods

Posted by saurabh.sahni280691 On April - 12 - 2011

India is a country that experiences all types of seasons like summer, winter, spring, rainy etc. and hence your hair is prone to all benefits and pitfalls of the fact. When you do not take care of your hair regularly, it becomes worse with the changes in the seasons. At times, we all go with similar routine and traditional treatments for all kinds of hair, all throughout the year, which is definitely not a good practice. Different seasons have different impact on your hair. In monsoon, hair becomes excessively moist due to high humidity in the atmosphere. In summer, hair tends to get rough and damaged due to exposure to harsh and direct sun. However, in this fast paced and extremely busy life one hardly get time to get a haircut in months so how will one manage hair according to different changing seasons. Here’s the solution. Let’s start with simple tips and home remedies to take care of your hair and related problems coming with different seasons.

Summer season is the toughest season for your hair to deal with. Excessive heat, continuous perspiration, atmospheric pollution, dirt and dust etc. all affect your hair very badly. It not only makes your hair rough and brittle also leads to pigmentation generation gradually resulting in graying of hair. Therefore, it is important to take proper care of your hair by not only external but internal means like adequate intake of vitamins and proper nutrition, balanced diet, lots of water, etc. as well. To start with, always apply a sunscreen conditioner to your hair before going out in the sun. You should always wear a scarf or a cap or hat to protect your hair from direct sunrays. Drinking a lot of water is very important as in summers you hair loose much water and can become dry. Avoid using heating equipments like dryers, straightened and rollers etc. You can also replace chemical shampoos for herbal shampoos and conditioners.

In winter seasons, there is less humidity in the atmosphere and thus you don not perspire much. This automatically prevents daily need for shampooing the hair. However, the cold breeze effects the hair in similar way as the scotching sun. Cold winter breeze also make your hair dry and rough. Massaging the hair properly, using essential oils like rosemary oil, olive oil jojoba oil etc is good for hair. Leave it overnight and wash off in the morning. Lastly comes the monsoon season. In this season, there is increase in the atmospheric humidity causing the hair oily and greasy. It looses its bounce giving a flat look. High levels of humidity cause excessive sweating, also leading to scalp problems like itching. Therefore, it is best to avoid use of chemicals and synthetic products for hair. Henna is perhaps a good natural conditioner and much helpful particularly in this season. You just need to take out little time out of your busy schedules to follow these simple suggestions to maintain the beauty of your gorgeous locks.

Where to Find Photos of Hair Styles

Posted by Kenny On March - 30 - 2011

Whether it's a wedding day, a prom, a long day at the office, or another special occasion, choosing a hair style can make or break your entire look. Finding a variety of pictures can help you look at different options and ideas for hair styles that will be most flattering on you. Here are some of the top ways to find good photos of hair styles.

First off, current fashion and beauty magazines will be a great place to start. However, you need to be careful not to fall in love with a look because of the person wearing it. Some stylists believe you should black out the face of the model or celebrity rocking the look because so many women don't realize they actually end up loving the picture or the person - not the actual hair style.

Once you have a few pictures picked out, you should definitely bring them in to your hair stylist to get a second option. You can also run them by friends and family to see what others think would look best on you. Especially if you're planning a special occasion, you need to be sure you find the right hair style. After all, you will probably have pictures taken at the event. You don't want to end up with pictures of you in a look you will regret. The same goes for your cosmetics and fashion choices! For longer events opt for quality products that will last all day from a brand like MAC makeup or Max Factor. For outfit options, stick to chic classics that won't go out of style.

Another good place to look for pictures is online. You can always find sites that have pulled together pictures of styles for all types of hair. Be sure to find styles that compliment what you have to work with. For instance, if you have short hair, you probably aren't going to want to only look at pictures of styles for long hair. Yes, you can always get extensions, but you will want to have options to best feature the hair you already have.

Prenatal Vitamins for Hair Growth: Fact or Fallacy?

Posted by Kenny On March - 30 - 2011

Hair loss can be devastating, and this can cause a person to become desperate.  You may try every fix you've heard of out there, including prenatal vitamins.  You would do much better to save your money and consult a specialist to treat your condition.

The Prenatal Vitamin Fallacy

Prenatal vitamins are designed to provide the extra folic acid and iron that pregnant women and nursing mothers need for their own health and the health of their babies.  Because pregnant women experience lush hair growth, many well-meaning people have erroneously concluded that this growth was the result of their special vitamins.  In fact, pregnancy hormones contribute to most of the extra hair and nail growth.  Taking prenatal vitamins for hair growth is usually just a waste of money.

Prenatal Vitamin Dangers

Women who aren't pregnant, as well as men, have different nutritional needs than pregnant and nursing mothers.  These groups don't need nearly as much folic acid and iron as prenatal vitamins provide.  Too much iron in the body can actually be extremely harmful.  Better to take hair growth vitamins, which are designed not for pregnant women but for people of your age and gender who wish to improve their nutritional health and beauty.

Vitamins for Your Hair

You can find vitamins for hair growth and separately formulated vitamins for hair growth for women and men in general retail stores, supermarkets, chain vitamin stores, and all over the Internet.  Focus on researching these products and learning what the ingredients can and can't do for your hair.  The best vitamins for hair growth include proper levels of vitamins and minerals plus extra herbs to balance hormones and give you the best hair possible.  Leave the prenatal vitamins on the shelf and you've saved that much time in getting to the root of your problem.

The Benefits of Using a Tourmaline or Ceramic Flat Iron

Posted by Kenny On March - 19 - 2011

Many women would do just about anything for sleek, straight hair. But so many find it almost impossible to achieve. Here are some things to consider if you've ever thought that stick straight hair was beyond your ability to get.

I used to use a drugstore brand hair straightener to get my straight hair look. I felt frustrated because no matter how much i tried, my hair would never get super, super straight. It would always be almost straight, but I just couldn't get that sleek, smooth, shiny look I coveted.

After hearing about tourmaline and ceramic flat irons, I decided to try one for myself. The one I chose was a Sedu Flat Iron, but there are quite a few brands that will give you the same results. Using one of these higher end flat irons made a world of difference.

Most of these more expensive irons use ionic technology which smooths your hair and creates extra shine as it straightens. They don't damage your hair like your typical brand flat irons like the ones you find in drugstores. Drugstore brand straighteners are uneven with their heat and can singe your hair in some places and not straighten it enough in others. It's strange, but even though the tourmaline or ceramic flat irons sometimes use a higher heat setting, they are safer and gentler on your hair because of their superior technology.

Another thing to consider is the price tag. Most quality hair straighteners cost anywhere from $100 to $300 dollars. But many of the ones in the $100 price range can sometimes be found on sale. Most of us aren't in the market to spend a whopping $300 dollars on a hairstyling product. But, by shopping smart and finding sales on the flat iron models in the lower end of that price range, you can get the same straight hair results with a flat iron that does fit in your budget.

Finding the most reliable provider of hair transplant procedures is not as difficult as one may think, and through the modern resources like the Internet and modern communications techniques, finding the best provider for your particular needs is no more difficult than some research online.  Online resources like www.HairTransplantCosts.com and www.HairTransplantNetwork.com are great for learning what the procedures and prices are as well as where the providers in your area are.

Using the information available online can quickly help weed out any less than reputable providers, as most providers have all of their license and qualifying documentation on their websites.  Providers like Dr. Kenneth Siporin (www.drsiporin.com) and the Bernstein Medical Group (www.BernstienMedical.com), in Los Angeles and New York, respectively, are great examples of these.

How much does a hair transplant cost is no indication of the quality of the services or the procedures themselves, and hair transplant cost is only commensurate with the type of procedures being performed and the location of the provider, as cost of living can drastically change the costs.  How much does hair transplant cost is a combination of the cost of the actual procedure, any medications or anesthesia needed, and the amount of individual treatments needed.

The FUE hair transplant cost is quite a bit higher than the FUT technique, but both procedures have their own applications and benefits for particular conditions.  The best way to find out what options are available, in addition to the best providers in a particular area, are through resources online, including those mentioned above, as well as the websites of the providers themselves.  Just as you wouldn’t buy penny stocks to invest in the stock market without consultation, it is important to find a reputable physician or clinic to provide you the advice and options available to you concerning hair transplants. Using these resources can not only help to find the most recognized and trusted providers, but some even allow online users to participate in a consultation with a licensed doctor online, without ever having to leave the house.

Look Elegant With Hair Flowers

Posted by Kenny On March - 3 - 2011

Wearing of hair flowers have already been practiced by women all over the world. Since the time of Queen Victoria in the 1800’s this has already began. Flowers speak different languages. There have been practices that women wear flowers to tell if they are still available or not. A flower on the right ear means that the lady is still unmarried. Men should beware if they see this flower on the left ear because that means that she has a jealous husband.

Today women wear hair flowers not only because it expresses something but also because it adds beauty to her. Flowers are symbols of beauty and those who wear it become more beautiful as well. It adds up to a positive feeling that one has. It is common to everybody to bring flowers every time they visit a sick person. It is because flowers can bring relief to someone in pain. It brings a positive feeling which no body can explain.

Women still wear bridal hair flowers during wedding ceremonies. The effects of these flowers to the woman will truly depend on how it is done. It is important to be aware about the colours of the flower which will match to what is dominant during the ceremony. It should also be looked into if the hair is long or the hair is short. The size of the flower will also be dependent on the length of the hair. It is often suggested that she should wear big flowers if she has long hair. It is also nice to wear small flowers if she has short hair. This is how she will match the sizes of the flowers so that it will look good on her. This will look elegant to the wearer if it is properly done. Now you can choose what flower you want your girlfriend to wear.

Home Remedies for Silky and Smooth Hair

Posted by saurabh.sahni280691 On February - 28 - 2011

Dry hair is definitely not something one wants. It is a big mess and it becomes a big problem handling dry hair. You wash it, it still looks the same, you comb it and it still appears to be the same. Sometimes nature harms your hair and sometimes you yourself become the enemy of your hair. Sun, rain, wind are some factors which are contributed by environment in the cause and some mistakes like using harsh shampoos, hair dyes, blowers, curling iron rods and getting perms done, are committed by us. We all wish long smooth hair but we forget that it is not easy to maintain long hair. Sometimes some internal influences affect our hair and make it dry for which we cannot put blame on anyone or anything such as being on heavy medication, prolonged illness, cancer treatment, etc. But we can always try for some solutions.

Though there are various hair care products available in market, they might be out of your budget. Not everyone can afford to go for expensive products and help the dry hair to regain its beauty. So here are some home remedies from granny’s diary which will surely prove helpful and make it much easier for you to manage your unmanageable hair.

The very first remedy which any one will ask you to do is proper oiling. Coconut oil is very useful for dry hair. Give a good massage to your hair with warm coconut oil once a week and see the difference. If crushed almonds are added to this warm oil then it will work wonders. Massage your hair, starting from the roots to the tips. After massaging wrap a towel around your hair, soaked in warm water. Make sure water is not dripping. Repeat this procedure two times. This will provide moisture to your hair. Second best remedy is to apply honey on your hair and leave it for 20 to 30 minutes. Then wash it with warm water. Don’t repeat it too often as it can result in gray hair.

Even bananas are very good for your hair. You only have to mash two ripe bananas and add curd to it. Apply it to your hair and wear a shower cap after that. After 20 minutes wash your hair and feel the new texture of your hair. But nothing is more effective than egg remedy. Beat an egg, add yogurt to it. Few drops of lemon and coconut oil should be added to the mixture and applied to hair. After 1 hour just rinse it with water, avoid using shampoo. Your hair will become as fine as silk.

Dry hair is very fragile and that’s why they can break down very easily so it becomes a necessity to take proper care of them not only though external means but also by taking a proper diet which will give you nutritious and will help you in keeping your hair healthy.

How To Use Sulfate Free Shampoo

Posted by Kenny On February - 24 - 2011

We've all heard the news.  Sulfates are bad for our hair, skin, and the environment so you've made the decision to go for a  sulfate free shampoo.  Good for you.  Sulfates have been linked to hair thinning and loss, they are absorbed by your liver and mimic the hormones estrogen, and are not biodegradable so they are harmful to our environment.

You've done the research and you've chosen your product but the first time you washed your hair the sulfate free shampoo didn't lather like you are used to and it didn't seem to get your hair as clean.  Well sulfates are the sudsy agent in your old shampoo that made it bubble and lather like that and a common misconception are the more bubbles there are the better the shampoo is.  In actuality the bubbles and lather are just to aid in the lubrication of the hair shaft and scalp to make it easier for you to massage the product in.  There is a correct way to use SLS Free Shampoos to make your hair feel it's best.

  • Wet hair as usual
  • Apply a VERY small amount of shampoo and work only on scalp
  • Rinse
  • Apply a bit more shampoo and work from scalp to ends
  • Rinse

The detergents used in sulfate free shampoos are milder and you will feel much cleaner if you lather rinse and repeat.  You only need a very small amount the first time and even the second wash you don't need much.  Remember a SLS free shampoo will not lather the same as a shampoo with sulfates so don't expect those thick rich bubbles and you do not need them.

Once you get used to using them, your hair and scalp will feel healthier, cleaner, full of more life and body not to mention that the environment will thank you for it.  No go eco-friendly and wash your hair.

What Is Dry Shampoo?

Posted by Kenny On February - 23 - 2011

It seems like such an alien concept but what is dry shampoo really?  Simply put, dry shampoo is a powdery substance that is massaged into the hair to remove oils, odors, and contaminants.  Women have been making their own dry shampoos for years using product like flour, cornstarch, oatmeal, almonds, baby powder, and baking soda just to name a few.  Although not meant to replace traditional washing, dry shampoos are perfect for active lifestyles when a refresher is needed but water washing just isn't practical.  They are great for a mid-day pick up, after work when you aren't heading home, camping, after the gym, to rid your hair of restaurant odors after eating out, or any time that you feel that your hair needs a boost of life and texture.

The first commercially available dry shampoo was introduced in the 70s and there were many complaints about it being messy or leaving residues on the shaft and scalp, but advancements have brought a whole new type of aerosol dries that work better, leave virtually no residue, and leave hair smelling fresh.  They all are applied virtually the same way.

  • Separate hair into 1.5 inch sections
  • Hold can 2 inches away and spray from root to tip
  • Use your fingers to lift and separate hair as you spray
  • Massage product into roots and scalp
  • Let sit for 2 minutes
  • Brush product out

Though there are now hundreds of dry shampoo products on the market right now my personal favorite is Batiste Dry Shampoo.  It comes in both a home and a travel size and a variety of scents.  The Original Scent is the lightest and Diva is the most dramatic.  I prefer the Blush Scent.  It is a light floral scent that makes my hair feel freshly washed and rejuvenated.  The travel size is perfect for your desk drawer, purse, gym bag, or glove box and is big enough to get the job done but small enough to fit into my evening hand bag.

Dry shampoos are a great substitute for when water washing just isn't an option.  Make your own or choose from the many great products out there and have the freshest cleanest hair you've ever felt.
