All About Hair Loss: Basics That Cannot Be Ignored!

Posted by saurabh.sahni280691 On May - 31 - 2011

Hair is a fine thread or string of dead keratin cells that grow every where on human skin except for palm and base of human feet. There are about 150,000 hairs on a normal human scalp. Strings of hair are made up of a protein called keratin that is present in nails too. This protein is produced in hair follicle present on the surface of the skin. Anagen, Catgen and Telogen are 3 phases of life cycle of hair follicle- Anagen is the period of active hair growth and lasts between 2 to 6 years, Catagen is transitional period that lasts for 2 to 3 weeks and Telogen is the resting phase and this phase is responsible for shedding of older hairs and replacing by new.

Hair is very important part of human body and protects our body from dust and dirt. Hair loss is a serious problem and should not be taken for granted. If not prevented or treated it can lead to baldness. Hair loss or baldness can be hereditary problem, side effect of medicine, or result of improper diet. Stress is another major factor that causes hair loss. Men women or children any one can suffer from hair loss.

Medicinally hair loss is also known as Alopecia. According to specialists, there are three major types of alopecia:
1-Involutional alopecia: this type of Allopecia occurs with age as aged people’s hair under-go gradual thinning and ultimately fall.
2-Androgenic Allopecia: it is a genetic hair loss problem and can affect both the sexes. In men, symptoms are visible earlier then women. In males symptoms may even start as early as commencement of teenage and is called male pattern baldness. This condition is marked by disappearance of hair from crown. Symptoms in women are generally visible in late 40s and are called as female pattern baldness. Females experience extensive hair loss at crown region that slowly leads to baldness.
3-Apolecia Areata: it is the hair loss among children and young adults. Patchy hair loss slowly leads to baldness but in most of the cases hairs grow again within few years.

A proper healthy diet can prevent and treat hair loss up to some extent. Diet rich in silica minerals vitamins such as biotin para aminobenzoic acid follic acid are considered good for hair growth and preventing hair loss. Moreover keeping hairs clean and washing them properly after a good oil massage increases the blood circulation in head and prevents hair loss. Minimizing stress also helps reducing hair fall. A number of home made remedies are available today for prevention and treatment of hair loss that do not even cause side effects. Thus herbal hair loss treatments have been proven more efficient and cheaper. Medicines, drugs, surgical treatments also provide relief to the sufferers they are expensive but bring faster and quick results Hair transplantation is one of the surgical treatments to treat hair loss and involves the procedure of removing a narrow strip of hair bearing scalp and using it too fill the bald area.

Thus ignoring hair loss or letting it untreated will only increase this problem. Covering bald areas with hairstyles, or using makeup, or hats wigs etc are not a solution but, they make condition worse. Thus one must opt for proper medications or certified treatments to get rid of this problem.

Consider Hair Perm Styles For A New Hairdo

Posted by Kenny On May - 29 - 2011

For anyone having straight hair and wanting curls, a hair perm may be the answer for longer lasting style. Even hair that has no curl at all can be made curly with different hair perm styles that can produce tight curls, loose waves, or almost anything in between. Busy women appreciate the fact that the hair perm does not take very long and they can have a new hairdo within a couple of hours.

A little research on the internet will produce many different hair perm pictures that give an idea of the various hair perm styles that are possible, and how the actual perm may look. Many magazines are available, also, with pictures of various options for perms. Most hair salons have books with pictures of the different styles the beautician is able to accomplish with the help of a hair perm.

A discussion with a professional hair stylist will reassure you that the proper perm will be selected for your type hair and that you will get the desired results.

Anyone looking for a really different style or look, can achieve the best outcome by having the right hair perm chosen for her type of hair, as that choice will influence the outcome. Most hair salons offer hair perm styles for any type of hair and are able to guide the customer toward the right choice.

First, look for hair perm pictures on the internet or in magazines and get an idea of what style you would like for your hair. Next, consult a licensed beautician and ask if that style would work with your hair. Take the pictures you have found with you, if possible, or look at the books in the hair salon. Whether you want perms for long hair, perms for fine hair, or are considering other hair perm styles, the beautician will help you make the right choice.

Having Grey Hair? Know The Causes

Posted by saurabh.sahni280691 On May - 27 - 2011

As your age increases your hair starts losing its original color and turns grey. This is something normal but when your hair starts turning white prematurely then something is really wrong. This condition will take away all your charm and will make you look old even when you are just in your young age. The hair is adjunct of the skin. The cells which form the outer layer of the skin, hair are also formed of those same cells. Hair grows from hair glands which are deep settled in the epidermis. An oily substance called sebum is secreted by sebaceous glands which provide nourishment, shine and blackness to the hair. These benefits cannot be given to hair externally; this must come from the bloodstream. When the internal, natural process fail to provide hair all these kinds of nourishments then hair lose its color and turn white.

There are many causes which lead to such condition. The most common causes are when you fail to provide proper food to your hair that is when you do not take a proper diet. When there is a lack of Vitamin B, iron, copper and iodine in your daily diet then it results in grey hair. One should also not take too much of tensions and mental stress as it also adds tension in the scalp. This will restrict the supply of nutrition which is the vital need of the hair. Due to stress, people suffer from insomnia. One should never forget that sleep is very important for healthy body and if body remains fit so will the hair. When a person faces emotional instability even then colored hair may turn white as it exerts a negative influence on the hair thus reducing the production of melanin, important for the keeping hair black.

Hair can turn white also when you do not wash your hair on regular basis and your scalp is unclean for most of the times. Washing hair with hot water and applying hair dyes also adds to the damage. Use of such appliances which emits heat on your hair should also be prohibited. Those products which have high chemical content should also be avoided as they decrease the quantity of melanin and badly affects the papilla. Sometimes even heredity can be reason of your white hair. In some families if mother or father or any near relative has faced the problem of premature greying of hair then the next generations can also face the same problem.

When one remains unhealthy then greying of hair is one of the most common results of unhealthy body. Unhealthy blood cells, kidneys and bone marrow disorder affect the blood circulation in the body and poor blood circulation always results in grey hair. Skin disorders also add on to the cause. Heavy medication or long term medication always have side effects and one of the side effect is grey hair or hair loss. All of the above mentioned points should be kept in mind for fighting against grey hair.

How to Find the Right Shampoo for Your Hair

Posted by Kenny On May - 25 - 2011

Finding the right shampoo for your hair can be tricky. Most of us will just settle for the first thing we find that doesn't leave our hair looking dry and flat. But if you want to put a little more effort into the process you can probably find something that gives you more volume and life than you thought possible.

A popular question today is: what is the best over the counter shampoo? The answer with any shampoo is: it depends. That's because everyone's hair is different, and therefore will react differently to the types of shampoo we put in it. You are probably going to want to do some experimenting, trying different kinds of shampoo and comparing them to one another. You can cut this process a little bit shorter by investing in a salon visit at first. Ask their opinion on the shampoo you should use, buy a bottle of their stuff, and use this as a base. Get some over the counter shampoos and compare how they make your hair feel to how the salon shampoo makes your hair feel. Chances are the salon stuff is going to be great, and most of the other shampoos... not so much. But when you find that one that works as well, then you're set to go.

That's a good routine for regular hair, but what is the best shampoo for color treated hair? A good rule of thumb for colored hair is to avoid shampoos that have sulfites in them. This is a strong cleaning agent that is known to cause color to flake out of hair, making it fade away faster. You're actually going to have this problem with any cleaner to an extent, as the whole point of shampoo is to get oils and other substances out of the hair, but those are the worst. You should probably start this search at the salon again, and get some advice on what kinds of shampoo are gentlest on color.

Not all over the counter shampoos are bad, but there are definitely some bad ones in the group. By taking the time to find one that works for you, you will save yourself time and energy in the long run.

Oily Hair – Not a Problem

Posted by Kenny On May - 23 - 2011

Most of the times, people are bothered about too dry hair and scalp. However, a less known problem nowadays is of oily scalp and hair. When you wash your and in the morning and by evening they tend to look all limp and flat, it perhaps clearly explains that you have oily hair. Oily hair does not require as much care as dry hair. But if ignored, can be quite bothersome. Unlike dry hair, Oily hair is less susceptible to damages like split- ends and roughness; however, they can be quite difficult to manage. Oily hair and scalp give you a flat and greasy appearance. It can also be a good reason for sticky dandruff problem and fungal infections. Oil produced by the scalp is to protect the hair shaft so that the hair growth is proper and also to reduce the problem of hair breakage and hair fall. It also maintains the natural shine and softness of hair. Hence, oil secretion is very important. But when the scalp starts producing oil in an uncontrolled manner, it obviously becomes a problem.

There are various reasons that contribute to oily hair problem. It can be both hormonal as well personal care related careless attitude. Sometimes, when people use androgenic hormones their body tends to produce excessive oil. It can also be a hereditary or genetic problem. And not to forget, your diet is also a very important element. A diet partial to oily and heavy food can be a reason for the same. Therefore, it is important to keep some things in mind if you want to get rid of oily and greasy hair and instead have beautiful tresses that flow as smooth as a river. Washing your hair thoroughly in order to remove all the dirt is very important. Avoid using conditioners for some time. If it appears that the ends are dry and brittle, you can then use some on the ends.

You can probably use some acidic solution to rinse your hair so that it reduces the oil from your hair. One can be made by mixing some lemon juice and vinegar. Wash your hair with it after shampooing, every time. Alcohol beverage like beer can also be used for this purpose. Spray a mixture of cider vinegar and water on your hair and leave for 2-3 minutes, wash off with lukewarm water. This prevents shampoo buildup. Diluted tea is rich in tannic acid and act as a perfect astringent to reduce oil from your hair. You can also try making a good shampoo at home by mixing aloe Vera gel and some lime juice to your normally used shampoo. And you can also use it every day to wash your hair. Baby powder is again a good way to reduce the greasiness, if you do not have time and are in a real hurry. Just sprinkle some and comb off. Try on these easy tips and bring life back to your hair.

Going for a Color Change??? Wait and Think

Posted by Kenny On May - 23 - 2011

Are you not happy with the way your hair look?? Want to get a new look by changing the color and style of your hair? It is an old practice now to change the hair color from blonde to black. Presently it is more about giving your hair funky and trendy colors and that to very frequently. Youngsters are more inclined towards bright colors like red, blue, pink etc.  It has now become a very easy and quick process with the availability of so many hair coloring products in the market. It is however, not unknown to people that this practice of coloring hair is not so good. The hair colors available in the market, branded or local, contains harmful chemicals in them which have side effects often appearing in the long run. Some particular type of skin condition, pre mature ageing of hair, excessive hair fall are just some of the consequences of hair coloring.

Hair coloring products come in two forms. One are particularly only for the dying purpose and other also provide reconditioning effects after any sort of adverse reactions. There are four classes of hair coloring products based on the time and their possible effects. This implies there exists four broad categories of hair coloring products- temporary, semi- permanent, demi- permanent and permanent. Bleach, a hair lightener, is a class of permanent hair color due to its defining effects. Usually temporary coloring is only preferred as it comes off ones you shampoo the hair. However, one should not bleach the hair before coloring as then the temporary color will also last long and be even stronger. It is always said that these coloring products are safe and contain special conditioners or natural products, in spite of all these claims it is true that these do have some side effects.

The chemicals present in these products are capable of removing or replacing the natural pigments found inside the hair shaft. Thus hair coloring can lead to problems like hair breakage, skin discoloration and other hair color results and temporary skin irritations and allergies. The skin allergies can show symptoms like redness, itching, burning sensations. These symptoms may take few hours or even days to come up. As soon as these symptoms appear you should inform the colorist to that he can remove the color.  Hair coloring makes hair prone to damage in terms of roughness, brittle and fragile, and extreme cases leads to total break off of the hair. Our skin and fingernails are made up of the same protein, called keratin. This means that some extra color or slips to the hair line can lead to skin discoloration. Hence, to prevent these kinds of problems, it is always advised to take skin patch test at least 24 hours before using the product on the hair. It is always advised to deep condition the hair after it is colored and preferably with conditioners and products specific for colored hair. This will keep the hair safe and color intact.

Premature Grey Hair – What a Mess

Posted by saurabh.sahni280691 On May - 20 - 2011

When one finds some white ugly looking hair in black shiny hair, that picture upsets one a lot. Having white hair with growing age is not an issue but the real issue is when black hair start turning grey prematurely. This can be because of many reasons such as not having a proper diet, taking lots of stress and tensions, keeping ill for a long period of time, being on heavy medicines, keeping hair and scalp unclean, use of appliances like blow dryers and heating rods and last but not the least the heredity you belong too. Even though greying of hair is an irreversible process, there are some home methods by which you can control the further damage and stimulate the process of growing new black hair on the scalp.

The most used and beneficial home remedy is the use of Indian gooseberry. It is a kind of hair tonic for enriching hair growth and hair coloration. The fruit is to be cut into pieces and should be completely dried leaving no water content in it. This process should not be taken place under the sun but preferably in shade.

Tale some coconut oil and boil these pieces with it. The dried substance will then become like charred dust. The oil thus produced is going to be very dark in color and this oil should be applied to hair. Another way in which amla can be used is by applying amla juice with almond oil and drops of lemon juice together every night. Massage your scalp properly as it will also stimulate blood flow.

Even amaranth works wonders in this problem. What you need is fresh juice of its leaves and its application directly to your hair. Your hair will start retaining their original color. It also keeps hair soft and smooth. You can even eat curry leaves as it is. This will provide strength to the hair roots. You can even make chutney from these leaves or squeeze some of its drops in buttermilk. By boiling the leaves in coconut oil new oil can also be formed which is very beneficial too.

Ribbed gourd could also be used as a remedy. Cut the pieces of this vegetable and then dry it in shade. Soak them in coconut oil and leave it as it is for four days. Boil the oil till it turns dark and leaves behind a thick residue. Apply the oil to hair and enrich the hair roots. One can even apply butter to hair for preventing grey hair. Just take the butter made from cow’s milk in small quantity and apply it to your scalp twice a week.

Vitamins are very important for guarding hair ageing premature greying so make sure you take sufficient of yogurt daily. Juices of carrot, lettuce and capsicum are also advantageous. Make sure your diet is healthy, balanced and proper. Avoid junk food and soft drinks as they will give you wrinkles, ugly looking skin and grey hair.

Henna is generally used for dyeing purpose. It gives a reddish brown color to hair. Besides its coloring properties, henna is also good for hair growth and treating hair loss. It blends with the natural proteins in hair and thereby stimulating hair growth and also strengthening your hair. Henna hair oil can also be used daily for massaging your hair. Henna is not only a wonderful remedy for hair loss but also helps in maintaining healthy and beautiful hair. It helps in healing hair shaft by repairing and sealing the cuticle. It prevents hair breakage and also holds the shine intact. It prevents premature hair fall by maintaining pH balance of the scalp. It cures various scalp related problems like itching, dandruff, dry scalp etc. occurring due to pollution, and excessive use of hair dryer.

Henna is an excellent natural conditioner. Neutral henna (cassia obovata) is made of pure leaves of henna which is of a different quality. It does not provide any color to your hair. It is used entirely for conditioning purpose. Natural or herbal henna has nourishing properties and makes hair soft and shiny. It is generally applied by soaking it in water. Various herbs like basil, asparagus etc. can also be added to it in order to increase the nourishing effects. It is also mixed with curd and applied to the scalp. Curd has properties that prevent drying of hair and also provide additional shine to it. This mixture applied to the hair should be kept for at least 2-3 hours for proper results. Coloring also depends on the texture and type of hair. It is preferable not to shampoo hair just after washing off the henna, as it washes off maximum color as well. Rather it is appropriate to oil your hair first and then shampoo it.

Henna leaves can also be used to prepare henna oil which can be used regularly for oiling your hair. Henna oil is prepared by boiling henna leaves with coconut oil or mustard oil. Henna hair oil brings back the supply of essential nutrients in the scalp and hair which is depleted due to pollution and exposure to sunlight. For beautiful and healthy long hair it is advised to use henna in every 15-20 days.

What are the Types of Hair Straighteners?

Posted by Kenny On May - 15 - 2011

While curls can be cute and fun and even sexy, too, silky, straight hair is still in high demand. Luckily, women of today don't have to resort to the destructive techniques of years ago when products with lye and using a clothes iron were not uncommon.

Types of Hair Straighteners

The first is probably very familiar to gals with frizzy curls that they can't stand -- do it yourself straightening with a hair dryer and flat iron. Today's styling tools are ever improving to be more effective while causing less damage. But let's not kid ourselves -- super-hot hair dryers and flat irons are still harmful to delicate tresses. Minimize their effects by starting your straightening routine with a straightening shampoo and conditioner, followed by a straightening serum of some kind (these will help make straightening easier so it takes less time; less time means less potential damage) and the most important product, a thermal protectant to shield your hair from the heat.

Speaking of cutting down your styling time, a Brazilian keratin treatment can do just that. This is a temporary straightener that eliminates frizz, adds strength and shine, and makes hair impervious to frizz-causing humidity. Often it doesn't actual straighten the hair. When you wash it, you will usual still have a wave to your hair, which means you have options. Let it dry naturally and enjoy tamer, frizz-less waves, or straighten it in a snap. The Brazilian keratin cuts styling time dramatically. In three to four months, it wears off and your hair is back to its bad 'ol self.

Then there's permanent hair straightening for those of you who know without a doubt you want that hair straight, period. A popular permanent treatment is the Japanese straightener. This many-hour and expensive process permanently alters the structure of your hair, leaving it stick straight. Your roots grow in as normal, so you will have to straighten them to match the rest of your sleek locks when they begin to grow. This type of straightener can make hair fragile and is often not recommended for people with damaged, over-processed or previously relaxed hair.

You will not have to untangle cords or wish for longer ones thanks to the swivel design. This design is a welcome one when sharing a mirror or needing just a smidgen more distance. Those with longer hair will enjoy the longer cord when working on the hair on the back of the head. The chi turbo hair straightener is also environmentally conscience, using much less energy than other models, using only twenty or twenty five watts. This eco-friendly feature will not only save the consumer money, but will conserve resources.

The ceramic plates are another fantastic feature. These are most often used in straighteners since the smoothing surface is completely flat, which reduces knots and tangles in your hair. Ceramic plates also produce negative ions, which are critical to keeping moisture in your hair. This process is essential to prevent frizz while keeping your hair straighter longer.

The chi hair straightener consistently out performs the other models and is one of the most well built straighteners. With its longer swivel cord, sensible ergonomic design and eco-friendly and money saving features, the best chi hair straightener continues to lead among the best rated flat irons. It is a wonderful flat iron to use, while also being a technological improvement in today's society. The chi straightener is useful and cost effective, offering those who want a top of the line straightening product for less.
